The BBM Hons in Hospitality, Tourism and Events Management degree offered by the Department of Tourism Studies, Faculty of Management at Uva Wellassa University has been awarded a 4-Star Accreditation by the Asia Pacific Institute for Events Management (APIEM) for a period of four years. Significantly, it is the first-degree program of its kind in Sri Lanka to receive APIEM accreditation and remains the only events-focused degree offered by a state university in Sri Lanka, marking a major milestone for events and MICE education in the country.
This achievement also marks the second international accreditation received by the degree, following the UNWTO TedQual accreditation in 2023 and was awarded as the Best University Hospitality & Tourism Program under the Education & Training category at the Sri Lanka Tourism Awards 2024.
This recognition highlights the program’s strong focus on Events and MICE management, ensuring alignment with international industry standards. The APIEM accreditation enhances the program’s global recognition and strengthens graduate employability in the rapidly expanding events and MICE sector. It reinforces UWU’s role as a pioneer in advancing professional, industry-oriented events management education in Sri Lanka.
