The Department of Tourism Studies, Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, successfully conducted the “Sustainability Checked – In” Workshop on 04th August 2026 for the 2nd and 3rd year undergraduates of the BBM (Hons) in Hospitality, Tourism and Events Management Degree Program. The workshop focused on creating awareness about the concept of sustainable tourism and food safety certifications among students.
The workshop provided participants with valuable knowledge on sustainable tourism practices, certification systems, and the importance of maintaining sustainability and food safety standards within the tourism and hospitality industry. The sessions also helped students gain a better understanding of industry practices and the role of certifications in promoting responsible and sustainable tourism development.
The Department extends its sincere appreciation to Mr. Kasun Vithanage, Manager/Lead Auditor – Sustainable Tourism, Control Union Sri Lanka, and Mr. Kavindu Gunathilaka, Commercial Lead – Sri Lanka & Maldives, for sharing their valuable knowledge, expertise, and industry insights. The Department also expresses its gratitude to Control Union Sri Lanka for their valuable contribution towards the success of this important awareness program.
