On 27th of September 2023 the Department of Tourism Studies celebrated the World Tourism Day 2023. This is an annual event organized by 3rd year undergraduates of Hospitality, Tourism and Events Management degree program. In 2023 the theme was “Tourism and Green Investments” and parallel to the event there were many other activities done such as, launching of 3rd volume of ‘WOW’ magazine, conducting a home science workshop for school students, exploration of hidden destinations at Rajakaduruwela waterfall, green investment program at Alugolla, launching of the ‘UWU Tourism’ YouTube channel. Prof. Jayantha Lal Ratnasekera, Vice-Chancellor of Uva Wellassa University, participated as the event’s chief guest. In addition, the deans, heads of departments and lecturers of Uva Wellassa University and representative from Ministry of Tourism, Uva Province also took part in this event. Dr. Shaffaath Amidon, the director of M & S Travel Solutions delivered the keynote address.
